Lake Ray Roberts Isle Du Bois
Weekend camping at Lake Ray Roberts Park, Isle Du Bois.
Friday we took the kayaks out for a short adventure around the park. Rough waters, not too many areas to explore, just open water.
We set up camp on the beach with Amanda and Steve McElrath. Beach camping is great! Good breeze off the water, soft ground to sleep on, and it's away from the other people camping in the park.
Saturday we all went hiking around the park. The Monarchs were fun to watch, flying all around. The trails are great, really kept up by the park.
All day we were preparing for it to rain but it kept blowing over, making it perfect weather.
Sunset over Lake Ray Roberts.
Saturday night around 11PM the rain finally kicked in. The McElrath's tent did pretty well considering the winds were around 20-30mph, but we all were getting rained on. We toughed it out and just pulled our sleeping bags over our heads and ignored the dripping. After about two hours of heavy rain it lessened and I was able to fall asleep. We all awoke the next morning with the sun and damp sleeping bags, oh, also don't forget the huge river in the middle of the tent!
Besides the crazy rain coming in our tent, the whole weekend was really fun. The McElraths are always fun to camp with because Steve insists on cooking, and it's always yummy.
We are definitely considering getting a TX Park Pass because this is the third park we've been to and they have all been great.
